Mona Stanbrough, CMA (AAMA), graduated from Professional Careers Institute’s medical assisting program in 1974 and earned certification in 1998. During the years after graduation, she performed every job imaginable in a medical office, advancing to management near the end of her office career. Teaching was a self-imposed job duty throughout Mona’s career. She preferred to avoid the not my job mentality prevalent among so many staff members. Instead, she fostered teamwork with cross-training. Mona began working at Horizon Health Care Institute in 2008. She created, taught, and constantly improved and streamlined the Clinical Medical Assistant program. Recently, she developed three on-line administrative MA programs—Billing and Coding for the Medical Office,  Medical Transcription, and Administrative Medical/Dental Assistant—as well as expanded the Clinical MA program to include online theory and terminology classes. Since modern medical offices are under a mandate to be totally computerized within a few years, online delivery of medical assistant programs gives students an advantage when seeking jobs.
