The purpose of the Pharmacy Technician course is to provide the student with skills that are important in assisting the pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medication. Training in medication order processing, inventories, compounding, packaging, use of a prescription balance, HIPPA privacy act, and computers. As part of this program, students will be assisted to apply for a Arizona State Board of Pharmacy Technician Trainee License.

How much does the Pharmacy Technician program cost?
The tuition for this program is $3500.00
Is there financial assistance to pay the tuition?
Yes. We have a variety of payment plan options available. Additionally, individuals may qualify for assistance through numerous agencies (i.e. military spouses may qualify for funding through the MyCAA tuition assistance program; displaced workers and those who meet financial eligibility may qualify for tuition assistance through Cochise County Workforce Development; individuals currently working for an agency may qualify for tuition assistance through their employer, etc.). Do I have to have a high school diploma or GED to take this class?
Yes.
Is there a minimum age requirement for this course?
Yes. One must be at least 18 to take this course.
Are there any pre-requisites for this course?
No.
Do I have to take a placement test?
Yes. HHCI uses the Scholastic Level Exam prepared by Wonderlic Education Solutions. The exam is issued online using the designated computer in the Student Services Center. Students wishing to enroll in the Pharmacy Technician training program must score a minimum of 15 on the placement exam to be eligible for enrollment.
Is there a fee to take the placement test?
Yes. The Scholastic Level Exam fee is $10.00 (non-refundable).
If I don't score a minimum of 15 on the Scholastic Level Exam will I be able to retake it?
Yes. There will be a $10.00 fee each time you take the exam.
Are there any other placement requirements for this program?
Yes. Students enrolled in this program are required to pass a urine drug screen (established by Medtox Laboratories), and must pass a background screening (performed by Universal Background Screening). In addition, students in this program must be able to prove negative Tuberculosis (TB) status in order to proceed with the externship portion of the program if selecting to do externship at the hospital pharmacy.
Once I'm enrolled, how long will the training take?
The program is a total of 320 hours. The course is offered as a blended course (online lecture and on campus skills labs). Check with the Student Services Center for an updated list of class schedules.
Once I've completed the training program will I be certified?
No. Students will be assisted to apply for a Pharmacy Technician Trainee License through the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy while enrolled in the program. Students successfully completing the Pharmacy Technician program will be eligible to sit for national certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTBC) Exam (required in the State of Arizona) and, if desired, may add to their national certification credentials by sitting for national certification through the National Healthcareer Association.
Is there a fee to take the national certification exam?
Yes. The fee for taking the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Exam is $129.00 (paid directly to PTCB). The fee for taking the National Healthcareer Association Exam is $105.00 paid directly to NHA. HHCI offers an application assistance services for a fee of $10.00.
